Toy Industries of Europe (TIE) participated in the 2004 International Toy Fair in Nürnberg. TIE Chairman Klaus Rasmussen was invited as the keynote speaker at the opening press conference. During his speech he highlighted how TIE interfaces with the EU institutions and other European stakeholders on behalf of the toy industry advocating its position in the fields key to TIE’s business such as advertising and marketing, international trade, and toy safety regulation. Mr Rasmussen also spoke of TIE’s pro-active work to promote the value of play and how toys and play are an intrinsic part of a child’s psychological, physical and social development.
The TIE stand
TIE also hosted a stand promoting TIE’s activities in Europe and the value of play. Strategically located in the foyer of Hall 12, the TIE stand received many visitors, raising TIE’s visibility not only with its current membership but also with non-member companies and associations. There was a strong interest in the TIE Facts and Figures brochure as well as interest from companies and associations to cooperate with TIE in the future.
Value of Play Seminar
TIE organised a seminar entitled “The Value of Play:
What it means for our children and our industry” with Professor Jeffrey Goldstein from the University of Utrecht as the speaker. The seminar was well attended by TIE members, the media and other interested stakeholders. Professor Goldstein presented a compelling body of research demonstrating that play is as central to a child’s physical and social development as any part of their formal education.
